Halo Screen Saver
This is the updated version of the screen saver program I first created in 2003. I was prompted
to update it with the release of the Halo 3 Announcement Trailer at E3 2006. While the original version could only play QuickTime
and MPEG movies, this updated version can also play WMV videos. This new version also allows you to set up a playlist of several
videos that will be played one after another. So now you can configure it to play a whole season of Red vs Blue if you like!
System Requirements
This version of the screen saver has been written using Visual Basic .NET 2005 Express Edition,
and uses Microsoft's .NET Framework v2. This means that the screen saver will only work on Windows XP and Windows 2000. You
will also need to download and install the .NET Framework v2, as well as QuickTime and Windows Media Player to get the full functionality of the screen saver. Don't worry if you only have one of QuickTime
or Windows Media Player, the screen saver will work just fine. However, if you want to download either QuickTime or Windows
Media Player, please click on the icons below.
Instructions
The file you will download is a .msi file, which is a Windows Installer file. After downloading
the file, you should be able to install it by double-clicking it. If your PC doesn't know what to do with .msi files, then
you will need to download the Windows Installer from Microsoft.
Download the screen saver installer by right-clicking here and choose "Save Target As..."
The file is 694 KB in size. Save the file to a folder on
your PC - you can use the Desktop if you wish. Next, open the folder where you saved the file, or just find the file on your
Desktop, and double-click the .msi file to start the installation. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the screen
saver. Once the installation is complete, go into Control Panel and select the Display option (see left).
Next, click on the Screen Saver tab, and select the "Halo 3 Screen Saver" option in the list
of screen savers (see left). Finally, click on the Settings button to bring up the dialog where you can configure the movies
you want the screen saver to display (see below).
Use the Add button to add movies to the playlist. Use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to change
the order of the movies in the playlist. Click OK to save your changes. You can use the Preview button to check out how the
screen saver will look.
